Getting there from Santiago
- Plane: is the fastest option. Fly to Pichoy Aerodrome (ZAL) and continue by taxi, bus or transfer.
- Plane to Osorno: Cañal Bajo Airport (ZOS) is about 110 km from Valdivia, around 1 hour 45 minutes by road.
- Car: on Route 5 South it is about 9 hours, with tolls. It is worth planning the route.
Where to stay
There are hotels, hostels and cabins. Three areas to choose from: the center and the waterfront, if you want to get around on foot; Isla Teja, residential and near the Botanical Garden; and Niebla and the coast, with beaches and sea views, but farther from the center. To look for lodging with a valid registration, use Sernatur's official search tool.
What to see
- Isla Teja: reached by the Pedro de Valdivia bridge. The Parque Saval and the Museum of Contemporary Art, in the former Anwandter brewery, are there.
- Botanical Garden: belongs to Universidad Austral, brings together native and exotic species by the river and is very close to Parque Saval.
- Waterfront and River Market: one of the best-known postcards of the city.
