Chimehuín and Collón Curá rivers, Junín de los Andes

The Chimehuín is highly valued by fly anglers. The river mouth is a preferential zone and requires a special permit. The Collón Curá is in the Limay basin. Every year, when the season opens, Junín de los Andes holds the National Trout Festival; the 36th edition ran from 31 October to 2 November 2025.

More about the place

The Chimehuín is about 50 km long and has three zones: the river mouth, upper Chimehuín and lower Chimehuín. You reach it from National Route 40 and provincial routes 61 and 23. There are river accesses at Piedra de los 11, Garganta del Diablo, La Herradura, Curruhué, Curva del Manzano and Quilquihue; on the last stretch, private land blocks entry.

Anglers catch rainbow and brown trout with dry flies, wet flies and nymphs. Release is mandatory along the whole river and the hook must be barbless. Because of the didymo alga, boats, clothing and rods must be disinfected before entering the river.
