Route 199 leaves Route 5 near Freire and passes Villarrica, Pucón and Curarrehue up to the Mamuil Malal Pass, on the border with Argentina. It runs beside Lake Villarrica and through the Trancura valley.

Destinations you can reach
Villarrica and Pucón: the road passes through Villarrica, runs beside Lake Villarrica and along the foothills of Villarrica volcano to Pucón.
Termas Geométricas: on the slopes of Villarrica volcano, in the Coñaripe area, a short drive from Pucón. There are 17 natural pools of up to 45 °C, with red walkways over a canyon. Open year-round, though it can snow between June and September.
Curarrehue: a town in the Trancura valley, on the way to the pass.
Mamuil Malal Pass: the pass into Argentina, just north of Lanín volcano, with an araucaria forest. On the other side is Junín de los Andes.
