Route 237

National Route 237 is one of the main roads to Bariloche from Neuquén. It leaves Route 22 at Arroyito, passes Villa El Chocón and Piedra del Águila, and continues to Bariloche and the Lakes Corridor.

What to see

  • Villa El Chocón: the official source calls it "the Valley of the Dinosaurs".
  • Piedra del Águila: gateway to the Lakes Corridor.
  • Alicurá reservoir: is 112 km from Bariloche on this road. See Las Trampas, for fishing.

In winter

There can be ice, snow and closures. In July 2023 trucks and buses were stranded by ice at Piedra del Águila, and in other years the road was reported impassable because of snow. Check the status before you leave.

Destinations you can reach

  • Villa El Chocón and Piedra del Águila: the two towns on the way. Piedra del Águila is the gateway to the Lakes Corridor.
  • San Carlos de Bariloche: Circuito Chico (Lake Nahuel Huapi, Llao Llao hotel and Cerro Campanario), Cerro Catedral (skiing in winter; trekking and mountain biking in summer) and boat trips to Isla Victoria and the arrayán forest.
  • San Martín de los Andes: Catritre and Quila Quina beaches on Lake Lácar, Bandurrias viewpoint and Cerro Chapelco (trekking in summer and skiing in winter).
